Bakhawan Arts & Projects

Bakhawan Arts & Projects (BAP) is a growing platform centering Filipino creativity. BAP was inspired from its initial performance "Pangandoy: The Dreams We Share Overseas" (2025). This was an evening of both Western Art and Jazz concert music composed by two Filipino artists: myself & Carlo Rabano that was hosted, sponsored, and supported by the SOMA Pilipinas community of San Francisco. From there, we aim to expand it past that single evening into years of art and community.

Bakhawan is Cebuano for "mangrove", which is a tree that grows on tropical coastlines, especially where fresh and salt water meet. Known for having a complexed, exposed root system, they settle in shallow waters as a full interconnected forest. Their existence is vital to the ecosystem creating environments for small animals to thrive in; protecting the lands and animals from waves, storms, and erosion; and filtering the water by trapping sediment and pollutants.
